Week 1 - And so it begins...It's still March 31st over here but somewhere around the world midnight has struck and NaPoWriMo has begun! Judging from the response on the last journal, everyone is excited and ready to get going. I know I've been looking forward to this since maybe September (seriously). The gallery folder entitled "Week 1: April 1st - April 7th" is now open and ready to receive your first poem, but don't forget to check out the rules for submission on the front page before you do so!
As promised, we have a wonderful list of prompts of all shapes and sizes, 99.8% provided by our lovely Co-Founder, ~silver-ships-fly. We're going to give you seven prompts for each type of prompt for each day of the week, or you can always just use them all in one poem. It's up to you But first, check out our first Prompt Challenge, which you will have exactly one week to enter!
This week's Prompt Challenge
The Prompt: Describe a setting/person/object without using the sense of sight; tas
Sneak Preview of #NaPoWriMo's Epic PlansHello poets (and other non-poets who wish to torture themselves for a month)! NaPoWriMo is just two days away and behind the scenes in the admin area we're busy planning for the month ahead. So that we don't bombard you with tons of information on April 1st, here's a bit of info on what's going on in #NaPoWriMo in the next four weeks.
Every week we're going to post a bunch of prompts to help inspire you and get the creative juices going. They won't just be any old prompts though - we've got a collection of words, phrases, songs, photographs and artwork accumulating. You can use more than one prompt at once, or not use them at all - it's up to you. If you still need more inspiration, check out the journals and news articles on poetry and NaPoWriMo that we're collecting in the favorites folder.
It's very simple: we'll give you a prompt and an obscure poetry form that you've never heard of (or at least I've never heard of!), and
feature 3.0EDIT: Updated to include a piece I left out! If I missed anyone else, PLEASE LET ME KNOW!
Earlier this week, I posted a poll asking people to link to works they had posted on dA that they personally loved, but that had received little attention from the rest of the community.
I was blown away by the quality of the work that I read and saw. Please go give them a look, because I think we all know what it's like to put our hearts out there.

Fantastic Feature Tuesday #36I have created a group for National Poetry Writing Month, so if you're participating, join #NaPoWriMo!
And now onto the features!
This is a weekly feature of amazing literature that I come by during my
travels across deviantART. This is only a small sample of a vast amount
of wonderful pieces of literature written by absolutely fantastic
writers. Each deviation was carefully selected from a writer's gallery
based on structure, impact and word usage. I will never feature the
same person twice, so check out these wonderful writers now while you can!
Please this news article so it will reach a larger audience!
NaPoWriMo 2013Oi, scriptwriters, playwrights - go see our equally awesome article on Script Frenzy 2013.
If you haven't realised yet, it's near the end of March.
Some of our poets know what's coming up soon.
Some of you are about to find out.
And INB4 some of you sling Eliot at me, yes, "April is the cruellest month."
National Poetry Writing Month
It's thirty days of April. It's one poem every day, and thirty poems by the end of the month. Write a poem each day, for every day of April. Any sort of poem - fixed verse, free verse, heroic epic, haiku, Google poetry, prose poems - any sort of poems. That's the challenge.
From the website:
NaPoWriMo, or National Poetry Writing Month, is an annual project in which participating poets attempt to write a poem a day for the month of April.
NaPoWriMo was founded in 2003, when poet

"shatter me, oh again
make me feel what matters
those moments when i taste sweet
calm and nothingness again"
The last prompt was to qualify the inexplicable aches and pains that come with what we hold as important. Literature of course has various interpretations, and what I found is that sometimes pain doesn't come from love, justice, or equally stoic virtues, but from the desire of presence: to be seen and heard, even if it means the pain will cause you to reinvent yourself.
My critique on the piece can be found here.
Continuing on from =dirked's piece, tell us about the process of reinvention. It doesn't necessarily have to be you who's being reinvented, but something else that you observe. What insights i

Goodnight Enigmatic SongShe was the song you hear and, at first blush, don't like.
Well, you don't know how you feel about it so you keep listening in an attempt to discover how exactly you feel and then you reach the end of the song and you realize, you don't like it; you love it.
That was Grace.
She was my coworker and she was my friend.
We carpooled together, I drove and she slept most of the way.
"Don't get much sleep at night, do you?" I asked her, catching those drooping lids mid-descent.
She looked out the window streaked with rain; it spoke in percussive touches filling the car with quiet overcast conversation.
I felt the warmth of her smile in the corner of my eye. The blur of her hand reached at the window to feel the cold of the droplets.
"When I was a girl, I used to race these. I thought it was funny the fat ones always won," she giggled and I imagined her as a little girl in the passenger seat then, legs too short to reach so kicking, and hair messed in the bac
